What is Auckland Montessori College?

Auckland Montessori College is an independent high school for students aged 11 - 18 years old. It is Co-ed. We have small groups of students. We deliver all of the school subjects. All learning is centred around the Student. Students may choose to study for NCEA, though this is not compulsory. Students do not usually have homework, they do not have to sit tests (unless for a qualification) and they can work in their own way. We do not have any particular religious affiliation (though all religions are welcome)

Montessori education is over 110 years old, and is found all around the world. We follow a Montessori Approach to education, which is different to most schools, because the students can choose their own work.

We have flexible attendance times during the day. We have a high trust relationship with the students. We acknowledge that each learning pathway is different so we want to help each learner find their own way.

We have two campuses:

Panmure - 18 Pilkington Road, Panmure
Constellation - 55 Constellation Drive, Albany

We are a legally registered school with registered teachers and ERO oversight. We work with the Ministry of Education and qualifications are monitored by NZQA, as for all other schools.

We look forward to showing you around.

10 reasons to choose AMC

  • #1 Some people find schools tough

Sometimes the other students, the staff, the school systems, or even the learning itself can be hard going. If it gets you down, perhaps time to try a new approach?

We also focus on social and emotional development, so students can build healthy relationships and manage their emotions.

As a community we respond quickly to reports of any bullying at AMC.

  • #2 Learning should be fun

You can be connected to your learning so that is meaningful, relevant and presented in a way that works for you.

We can connect up learning through story, and through materials so that it makes sense to you as a learner.

  • #3 Self directed learning

Perhaps you want to learn more? or move faster? or move slower? or go off on an interesting side route? What if you could choose your own learning, at your own speed, in your own way. We provide opportunity for you to learn in your style.

We believe in self-directed learning, so students can explore their interests and learn at their own pace.

  • #4 Education for Peace matters

    We’re all about peace education.

There are a lot of crazy things happening in the world. How can you work out what you can do to find a way though the media maze? We can show you how to navigate and find meaning so that you can feel good and contribute to others.

  • #5 Choice matters in learning.

Choosing your own topics, timeframes, and outcomes matters. You can decide what to learn, how long you want to send learning, how you will learn. You become the centre of your own education

  • #6 Empowering Learners

The Montessori learning approach empowers the students to choose their own curriculum and learning paths. We’re a school of choice: with freedom within limits.

We have a flexible timetable that works for everyone.

  • #7 Montessori Approach

Our teachers continue to study Montessori Education which informs our teaching approaches.

We are qualified and skilled, and we offer one-on-one teaching to make sure each student gets the support they need. We teach using helpful games and objects (learning materials).

We also have pastoral support and mentorship to help students grow both academically and personally.

We have one-on-one support for students who want to choose their own subjects.

  • #8 UNITED NATIONS

We are a United Nations School and we use Sustainable Development Goals as part of Global Citizen Education programme, which teaches students about the importance rights and responsibilities.

  • #9 Work can be a good thing

Work - a meaningful contribution to society; is beneficial to the whole group and the individual.

At Auckland Montessori College, we believe that knowledge and learning promote personal growth and wellbeing.

Through meaningful work, you contribute to yourself, society, and the environment, leading to growth and healing.

  • #10 NCEA is available and optional

You can work toward education qualifications at any time. You have the opportunity to do NCEA whenever you want to.
